Saskatoon Blades split weekend action

A 6-5 shootout loss to the host Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night has left the Saskatoon Blades sitting at a 28-17-3-4 record and sixth in the Western Hockey League’s East Conference standings.

David Lewandowski scored early in the third period for the Blades to give them the 5-4 lead, but the Broncos soon tied it to eventually force overtime, which also ended in a stalemate.

Saskatoon’s other four goals all came in the first period, with Hunter Laing, Tanner Scott, Hayden Harsanyi and Grayson Siepmann each scoring.

Ethan McCallum was in net for the Blades and made 24 saves between regulation and overtime.

On Friday night, the Blades claimed a 6-3 victory over the visiting Calgary Hitmen.

The Blades were down 3-2 midway through the second period of that game, but then scored three unanswered goals, one each by Isaac Poll, Jordan Martin and Rowan Calvert to secure the win.

Cooper Williams, Jack Kachkowski and Sipemann all had goals earlier in the game, while McCallum made 39 saves on 42 shots in net.

Saskatoon hosted the fifth-place Brandon Wheat Kings on Monday afternoon, results are pending.

They’ll next be in action on Wednesday when they travel to Lethbridge to take on the Hurricanes.
