After each going through the match simulation motions at various points last week, the two Melbourne-based teams have named a 26-man squad for the 7:10pm clash in Carlton.
Speaking to Fox Footy pre-game, Tigers coach Adem Yze noted that fans should be excited for the new era his side is set to begin.
“Our list is transitioning, so we’ve lost a lot of experience. But with that comes a lot of excitement, so we’re going to see a fast brand of footy,” Yze said.
“Our players are just expected to put on a strong show for our supporters, and one they feel really proud to watch. Our contest and our defence will hopefully be on-point tonight.”

Seven behinds in the first quarter meant the Tigers trailed Collingwood by 23 points at quarter time, with the Pies’ six goals straight dwarfing their one goal.
Nick Daicos unsurprisingly dominated early, with 13 disposals at quarter time. New recruit Tim Membrey kicked two early goals, while Dan Houston looked ultra-dangerous running towards goal.
Daicos did receive treatment from medicos at quarter-time for what appeared to be a left leg concern of sorts, however, after a massage he played on into the second period, lining up at the centre bounce. Houston also had a brief scare after copping a knock to his knee during the first quarter. He could be seen wincing, but like Daicos, is playing on.
It was the usual suspects who shone bright in the second term, as well as the former Power player who took the liking of Melbourne great Garry Lyon.
“It’s been Josh Daicos off half-back that’s been so impressive in conjunction with (Isaac) Quaynor and Dan Houston, who’s looking pretty ominous,” Lyon told Fox Footy at half-time.
“You can physically and visibly see the forwards’ eyes light up when these guys have got the ball on the outside … they’re just looking so dangerous with the way that they change their angles,” three-time Geelong premiership player Tom Hawkins added.
With a quarter to go, Collingwood led Richmond by 75 points — remarkably kicking 19 goals for just one behind, which was rushed!
Premiership players Nathan Broad, Jayden Short and Toby Nankervis have all taken the field against the Magpies on Wednesday night for their first hit out this year, as have former GWS guns Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper.
But despite gaining several more senior games to their side that faced West Coast in match simulation last week, regulars Tom Lynch (concussion), Dion Prestia (Achilles), Hugo Ralphsmith (hamstring) will be absent from the field this evening for Richmond.
First-year draftees Sam Lalor (jaw/concussion), Josh Smillie (hamstring) and Jonty Faull (back) will also miss through injury.
As for the black and white army, veterans Tom Mitchell and Mason Cox will miss the match through injury, while Jordan De Goey continues to recover from bone bruising in his knee. Star defender Brayden Maynard has been managed by the club, and is expected to line up against GWS in Opening Round next Saturday.
Craig McRae’s Collingwood side downed the Tigers by five goals in the same fixture last year, in what turned out to be a very fiery clash.
