Caleb Jewell skied a ramp shot in the first over off Michael Neser, but Nathan McSweeney put down a tough chance in the out-field.

Mitchell Owen smashed two towering sixes in the first over to get the Hurricanes off to a flyer.

A fire started in the DJ booth that proved difficult to put out and the game was brought to a halt for several minutes with the Hurricanes at 0-47 in the fourth over.

“Play delayed due to fire, I never thought I would see that,” Haddin said.

“Gilly never did I think I would be standing on the boundary reporting an electrical fire,” Eloise Sohier said.

“There still is a bit of smoke around the scoreboard. They have evacuated the chairs around it perhaps trying to move them to somewhere else in the Stadium.

“But it is a sellout here at The Gabba this evening, so where they are going to get placed, who knows.

“Obviously the safetly of everyone is of most importance.

“It looks like it has been put out. There is a number of fire extinguishers working on it right now.”

The Heat made 6-201 from their 20 overs after being sent in by the Hurricanes, with Marnus Labuschagne top scoring with 77, including eight fours and two towering sixes.

Giant Hurricanes debutant Marcus Bean bowled a wide before getting a wicket with his third ball when Nathan McSweeney chipped one to mid-wicket.

Queenslander Bean is a whopping 200cm tall and can’t be missed with his bleach blonde hair, but his early wicket made him an instant cult hero in the BBL.

Usman Khawaja smashed three fours and a six in his 23 off 9 balls, before he was caught by Jake Doran off Nathan Ellis.

Matt Renshaw blasted three fours and two towering sixes in his 40 off just 26 balls, before he was run out by the superb arm of Tim David trying to sneak an extra run.

Max Bryant tried to ramp Mitchell Owen over short fine leg but the ball went straight down the throat of Riley Meredith and he was out for 4.

Marnus Labuschagne smashed seven fours and a six in his second BBL 50 off just 31 balls.

Tom Alsop smashed four fours in his 39 off 27 balls, before he was caught in the deep by a brilliant catch off Tim David to give Nathan Ellis his second.

Marnus Labushchagne was out off the last ball of the innings for 77 off 44 balls, but not before guiding the Heat to a monster total of 201.

MATCH PREVIEW

Test stars Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne will play for the Brisbane Heat in their clash with the Hobart Hurricanes in a scramble for finals spots at The Gabba.

Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bowl.

The second placed Hurricanes can all but seal top spot with a victory, while the fifth placed Heat need to win their final two games to be any hope of playing finals.

Khawaja and Labuschagne will lead the charge with the bat in their only BBL game of the season before preparing for Sri Lanka, while Michael Neser and Mitchell Swepson will be key with the ball.

For the Hurricanes, Tim David and Ben McDermott have been in hot form with the bat, while Riley Meredith and Peter Hatzoglou will be crucial with the ball in the injury absence of Billy Stanlake.

It sets the scene for a mouth-watering clash with both sides desperate for a win heading into the final round of the regular season.
