All about Jamie Foxx’s sisters, Deidra and DeOndra Dixon
Jamie Foxx credits his sister Deidra Dixon for saving his life.
In the new Netflix special “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…” the comedian recalled being hospitalized after he experienced a medical emergency in April 2023.
In the special, Foxx said he suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke, which affected his memory.
“I don’t remember 20 days,” he said.
The “They Cloned Tyrone” star then credited his sister for saving his life by taking him to the right doctors after his first doctor dismissed his illness and sent him home with a cortisone shot.
“They say she drove around Atlanta sort of aimlessly. She didn’t really know where the hospitals was, but as she was driving around, she came up on Piedmont hospital. Give it up for Pied,” he told the audience as they clapped along. “What’s interesting about it is that as she drove around, she didn’t know anything about Piedmont hospital, but she had a hunch that some angels is in there.”
It was there that Foxx was treated for his stroke. He said the whole time he was in the operating room, his sister stood outside and prayed for him.
“Here’s the thing: When you dream about what you want to be in life, you don’t dream tragedy,” he said. “You dream everything is good. I got the life. I got the cars. I got all that. You don’t dream that something must go wrong, but when something does go wrong, you need a sister, 4-foot-11, full of nothing but love.”
“I’m going to tell you something about my sister Deidra Dixon and my daughter Corinne Marie Foxx. They held me the f— down,” the “Django Unchained” star added.
Over the years Foxx has also paid tribute to his sister DeOndra Dixon, who died at age 36 in 2020.

Deidra Dixon
Deidra Dixon has worked with Foxx on multiple occasions. She’s credited with being his hairstylist on a number of projects, such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Baby Driver.”
She’s worked with some other great stars too. Deidra Dixon is credited with doing Chadwick Boseman’s hair in a few “Avengers” films and working in the makeup department in “Black Panther.”
In August 2023, Foxx took to Instagram to celebrate his sister’s birthday while thanking her for being by his side during his medical emergency.
He wrote in his caption, “You are magical you are beautiful you are the courageous lionesses #leoseason. And without you I would not be here… had you not made the decisions that you made I would’ve lost my life…. I love you forever and ever happy birthday sis.”
DeOndra Dixon
DeOndra Dixon was born with Down syndrome, a genetic condition in which a person is “born with an extra copy of chromosome 21” and can affect how a person’s brain and body develops, per Cleveland Clinic.
In a 2018 interview on “Dateline,” Foxx recalled DeOndra Dixon’s childhood.
“DeOndra has a light on that has been on since she was born,” he said, adding that she was a “little bundle of joy” as a baby.
Growing up, DeOndra Dixon found pleasure in singing and dancing. One thing Foxx praises her for is helping him learn “how to live.”
“Sometimes we get caught up in our world on the extras of everything — ‘Ah, the Mercedes is not the right color!’ And then you see this girl over here. ‘I just want to live. I want to dance. I want to love.’ She brings you back down to what life is,” he said on “Dateline.”
In October 2020, Foxx revealed his little sister died in a heartbreaking post he shared on Instagram.
“I know she is in heaven now dancing with her wings on…tho my pain is unbelievable I smile when I think of all of the great memories that she left me… my family… and her friends… from dancing in the blame it video… to Dancing on the Grammys… And becoming The ambassador to @globaldownsyndrome… from sliding down my stairs with a grin as wide as the rio grand… to serenading us with all of her music… Deondra you have left A hole in my heart… but I will fill it with all of the memories that you gave me,” he said. “I love you with every ounce of me.”
